KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah visited The Trinity Cathedral, Ram Swami Temple and the Gurdwara in Karachi to express his solidarity with the religious minorities and lauded their contribution in developing Pakistan.
– The Church:
The chief minister along with some cabinet member visited the church where he was received by Bishop Daniel Sadiq while school girls played flutes and drums, announcing his arrival and welcoming him. “I have received education from a Christian missionary school. I am proud to say that what I am today has your (Christians) contribution in the shape of education,” Shah said.
He said that his government and party were committed with the cause of minorities’ rights as his cabinet’s Christian special assistant represents them and that he would be looking after their problems personally. “This is something to be proud of that I’m celebrating my 54th birthday on the same day when the minorities are celebrating their day,” he said.
Bishop Daniel Sadiq addressing the gathering welcomed the chief minister and lauded his gesture to celebrate minorities’ day with them. The audience, including the chief minister rose at their seats and observed a two-minute silence to mourn the Quetta tragedy. The programme concluded with the celebration of the chief minister’s birthday.
– The Mander:
Shah then went to Narain Ram Swami temple where he was received by Hindu community leaders who were showering rose petals on him. First they left him to a corner where they had lit candles to pay tribute to the people who lost their lives in Quetta blast –Shah also lit a candle for them.
The chief minister then went up to the mander and participated in their programme. They had arranged a cake with candles to celebrate his birthday by cutting it at the mander.
– The Gordwara:
Shah then visited the Gordwara – the religious holy place of Sikhs. He stayed with them for some time and witnessed their religious activities. The chief minister guaranteed the minorities that he was supporting them in every step.
“I am a phone call away from you, whenever you need me, otherwise you would be equally respected and protected. This is your country as well and enjoy your life free of any fear,” he said.
